Dr. Shakya provides full-scope optometry, including routine eye examinations, contact lens fittings, pre, and post-operative patient care, emergency eye examinations and treatment, glaucoma co-management, refractive surgery assessments, and pediatric examinations. Dr. Tannis Shakya has been practicing at Spectrum Eyecare & Eyewear in High River since 2004.
Originally from rural Saskatchewan, she attended the University of Regina fulfilling the requirements for pre-optometry, and continued her education at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry from 1999-2003, graduating with a Doctor of Optometry degree (Dean’s Honours List). She was awarded the J.C. Thompson Memorial Prize for Optometry for achieving top marks in clinical rotations, as well as an Alcon Continuing Professional Education Award for achievement in contact lens courses/clinics. She spent a four-month externship in Baltimore, MD, working at the Omni Eye Centre and a five-week internship in Edmonton, AB. In 2014, she completed a course in Oral Therapeutics, Glaucoma and Advanced Diagnostics. Dr. Shakya is a member of the Calgary Society of Optometrists, the Alberta Association of Optometrists, and the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
